I just wanted to point out to the recent tt.net members that this has been done before. And because it has been done before, his patent application will likely be rejected. Patentability requirements are easily found on the internet: PATENTABILITY REQUIREMENTS. To qualify for a patent, an inventor must show that his or her invention is novel, manifests an "inventive step" (i.e., that the invention was nonobvious) and is industrially applicable. But, I encourage him to give it a try as a learning experience. But I'm told the patent application fee alone is $2000. Luckily he won't have to pay legal fees since the family lawyer is helping him out. I applaud Chris's efforts, but I believe he is misguided in thinking he will be successful in his quest for a patent
